Birthday!
Yay, it’s my birthday today! I am officially 18! So far the only present I've gotten today was a pop from my friend John. A lot of people have wished me a happy birthday though. Parts of today suck since I bowled a terrible game in gym today, my friend Rob endlessly tortured me, and my dad is going into chemo for the fourth time, and now my whole class is singing to me. Oh dear lord. On the upside though I am going home with my friend Michelle, and we are going to Target to look for a birthday present for our friend Leah. We are going to make a stop at Southdale too so I can get my free Caribou. Then we are going to eat at Perkins for my birthday dinner. Hopefully my parents will have something special waiting for me when I get home, but if they don't I guess I don't blame them. The party should be fun, but I have no idea when it's going to be. One thing my friend Leah and I are going to do sometime since she just turned 18 too on the 16th, is get my belly button pierced. She is going to get her ears pierced again. I want to get my belly button pierced I think. It depends on how much it will cost and how much it will hurt. I somewhat don't like needles. Speaking of needles today is also the blood drive. I was going to sign up for it, but I chickened out like last time. I feel somewhat guilty for not doing it, but I will give blood someday. I swear. I can't wait to check the mail today. I hope I get a few birthday cards. If not today I probably will get them within a week. Knowing the people who send them I will probably be getting money in them. I really don't know what else to say. Oh yeah. I just remembered another cool thing about being 18. I can officially vote! I can't wait to vote in the upcoming election. I am not totally sure who I will be voting for, but most likely it will be whoever wins the democratic nomination. Ok, that is all I have to say about my birthday today. I hope today will be a good day.

"Let Me Let Go" Critique
2. The song I picked was "Let Me Let Go" by Faith Hill. I picked this song because I really like it, and I find that it relates to me. The song is about someone who can't get over their ex lover. This relates to me because I have the same perdicament. I noticed that I tend to like songs that I can relate to. I find that listening to songs such as this helps me express my emotions in a less obvious way.
3.The title of the song fits perfectly. The title of the song was picked because the phrase let me let go is used many times througout the song's chorus.
4.Imagery is somewhat used in the begining of the song in the second stanza. She mentions touch and sound. Metaphor is also used in this part "I've been two thousand miles Down a dead-end road" She hasn't really been down a road, but that is describing how she feels. Hyperbole is also used because she uses exaggerations throughout the whole song to describe her situation.
5.The tone is sad and longing. The tone is set up by somewhat exaggerating her situation. It is also enhanced by the melody, and her singing the song slowly.

Writing Territories
2.
I personally like to read novels. I like novels because they take longer to read, so I will have something to keep me busy longer. One of my favorite authors is Stephen King, even though I haven't read any of his books since last summer. I like to write either short stories, poems, or journal entry style stuff. I used to write almost every day, or at least once a week, but I haven't writen anything in a really long time other than for school. I usualy write in a journal about stuff that is going on in my life. If I don't have anything interesting to write about in my life I write about random subjects that are usualy depressing ones. I don't know why but it seems that it is easier to write about things that are sad than happy.
3. Thursday, the day of the hockey game was very fun. I couldn't get out of school, but I hung out with my friends. It was sweet because I pretty much did nothing all day. First hour all I did in math was a fun word wuzzle work sheet. In gym second hour I talked to my friends in my gym class in the weight room. After that I hung out with my friends in the cafeteria. My friend Michelle and I listened to my ipod, and started planning our trip to Wisconsen Dells this summer. We don't even know if we are going to be able to go, but hopefully everything will work out. By the end it was very annoying because my friend Adam kept taking stuff out of my back pack and hiding it. He used to do that in eighth grade too, so he was doing it for old times sake. When we had to go to fifth hour I had to go to child psych. I was the only one there at first, and Mrs. Kieffer had her kids there, so she asked me to watch them while she went to talk to Mrs. Irons. Her kids were very loud and hyper. I got out of sixth hour early so that was fun. It was a good day.

new post written late on 02/27/08
1.
Writing a play was very interesting. I feel that the story would have been better if I wasn't limited to settings that only can be done on stage. I also would have found it easier to write it like a short story. It wasn't too hard to write though, because in art of film I had to write a movie script. It was also difficult to figure out how to start it. I would have to say that writing a play was a unique experience.
If I were to give a ten year old boy advice about living in today's world I would say to work hard. If you prepare early you won't get behind. It is also helpful to be self confident, and to follow your dreams. I would say that nothing in this world worth having comes easy, so don't be afraid to do the work. I say this because I wish I would have prepared for things earlier, even though things have still worked out. I would also say to not care about the mean things that people could say, because that has really helped me growing up.
3.
I have no idea what makes them last forever. Maybe it has something to do with many people finding them good works. That message has probably been passed down from generation to generation, thus preserving the title of those works as being amazing. They must be good in order to keep the interest of people for so long. I don't think I could see myself writing something that would last that long. Partly because I couldn't see myself having a writing career, which the authors of those works had. I also am not as skilled of a writer as those authors. I enjoy writing, but I am no where near as good.

Theme
1.
Theme is very important in writing. It helps convey a main idea, and gives substance to a story. Without a theme a story would just be a bunch of random words that hardly have a point. For example in the story of the tortoise and the hare, the theme of the story is that slow and steady wins the race. Without that lesson the story would just be two animals running through the forest. The theme of a story doesn't have to be blatantly obvious though, it can be very well hidden within the story. A story also can have multiple themes, you might have to search harder for multiple themes, but that could also lead to better understanding of what you are reading. The same thing goes for ideas being present in writing. Without ideas there pretty much wouldn't be a story in the first place.
2.
I believe the theme I am going to try to incorporate into my play is the idea that love is patient, and worth waiting for. A theme such as this is important to me for various reasons. One of those reasons is because I am a hopeless romantic, and I fantasize about various scenarios, so I have plenty of ideas. It also is important because the type of story I would write is how I wish things could be in my own life. It is funny though, because most guys don't do the things I fantasize about. Thus making it a fantasy I guess. I also greatly enjoy romance.
3.
In the play the main conflict would be the struggle of a girl who has her heart broken, but still is deeply in love with the guy who broke it. When she finds out he has a new girl she makes it her mission to break them up. In doing so she winds up meeting another guy, and falling for him. In the end her ex realizes that he still loves her, and the girl must make a choice between her past, and her present. This may sound really corny, but I like it.

1. I agree that reading is an important part of writing. If you think about it, if nobody read how would they learn to write? Also if nobody read, no one’s work would be noticed, so people would probably stop writing all together. Reading is an amazing activity that absorbs the mind. It teaches us about different writing styles, so without it where would a writer learn how to write really well? Reading materials such as factual books can actually provide the information needed to write certain things in the first place. If you really think about it without reading, is it really possible to become a good writer? I don't think so.
2. Something that is bothering me in my group of friend is one of my guy friends. He has constant mood swings, and always runs off. He constantly acts sad, and mopes around one second, and then the next second he is hyper and bouncing off the walls. A second after that he is so angry that he is shaking, and punching things. A lot of my friends think he is just being annoying to get attention. I think sometimes that is th e case, but I somewhat think he is bipolar. I really wish all that would stop. I am sick of all the drama.
3.A show that has somewhat inspired me is "Scrubs". It is a very good show that includes many life lessons. That show somewhat helped me figure out what I want to do with the rest of my life. After watching it for a while and looking back on my childhood I realized that I might want to be a nurse. You might think that is stupid that a T.V. show is influencing what I want to do as a career, but it isn't all because of "Scrubs". Looking back on my life I have always been somewhat interested in medicine. Having people treat my injuries never was on my top 10 list of things, but treating them myself, or looking at other people's injuries was. "Scrubs" hasn't only inspired a career choice. Since almost every episode has some sort of life lesson, it is obvious that some of them have applied to my life. I would go into detail, but there are some things in particular that I don't want people to know.

Do The Right Thing blog post
The movie Do The Right Thing was an interesting movie. One of the main points in the movie was racism. There were very few scenes in the movie that didn't talk about racism in one way or another. Normally racism is only shown between whites and blacks, however this movie showed how almost any racial group has issues with another racial group. This was best shown during the racial slur montage. It showed every racial group in the film totally dissing other racial groups. The things they said were very hurtful, and offensive. Then again that is why it is called a racial slur montage. The things said during that part of the film made me feel somewhat sad to know there is so much hate in the world, but it got the point across. I suppose the fact that it got the point across is all that matters.
